バングラデシュの物価の話
（日本語訳あり）One of the common questions I get is: “The living cost in Bangladesh must be very cheap, I suppose?” The answer is “Yes, but No.” Yes- you can buy vegetables for 0.15-0.40 USD/kg (do not surprise, once I bought green chili for $0.07/kg!), you can go around 1-2 km by cycle “Rikishaw” for 0.15-0.40 USD whereas meat and eggs are not very cheap (beef: USD10-12/kg, egg: 0.10/piece). However, whatever the goods imported cost same as Japan or even more. For example, baby’s diaper costs 0.40-0.70 USD/piece (double the price compare to Japan, with low quality), Mars chocolate bar would be 1 USD,and the worst case are cars and electronics; it costs almost double the price because of its very high import tax. In addition, because of the environment and the society needs, you may need to hire housemate and driver which you would have never thought of!
Someone said to me that if I want to have a comfortable life as I have in Japan/Western society, a family needs about USD 100,000/year income. Considering that the average monthly wage of Rikishawarer is USD 150, her calculation is too much but the cost of the living varies so much depends on how you want to live here.
「バングラデシュって物価安いんでしょ？」とよく聞かれます。確かに野菜は15～40円/kg（！）だし、1～2Kmの距離をリキシャで移動するのも15～40円くらいなことを考えると物価は日本の1/10？？と言ってもよいかもしれません。一方牛肉は100ｇあたり100～120円くらいしますし、卵も1個10円くらいだったりしてあまり安くありません。さらに外国製品は総じて日本と同等の値段かそれ以上。例えばオムツは日本だとまとめ買いで1枚20円前後ですがこちらだと40円～70円（しかも品質悪い）。最も酷いのは車と電化製品で、日本の約2倍はします。さらに埃っぽく危ないものだらけな環境と女性や子供が一人で出歩ける場所が限られていることを考えるとお手伝いさんやドライバーを雇うことすら考えなくてはいけません。
以前とある人が「バングラデシュで心地よく過ごしたいなら、年収1000万円くらい必要よ。」と言っていました。リキシャワラの月給がだいたい1.5万円くらいなことを考えると年収1000万は言い過ぎでしょうが、バングラデシュの物価はどんな生活をしたいのかによって大きく違うということが言えるかな、と思います。
